Well, OK. I did not, in fact, win the American League Championship last year. But it was related to that, and I did *see* that award on Wednesday.
The Society for News Design is the organization for everyone who is anyone in my field (of, uh, news design). It's a great way to network. They hold workshops, conferences, publish newsletters, etc. And they give awards. The best of the best. The St. Petersburg Times won 36 awards this year. We knew this about two weeks ago. But today the individual awards were announced. For the first time, my name was on one of the winning entries. And it was for our Rays coverage. The entire sports design staff, the sports editor and the sports photo editor won for a collective entry of our work during the Rays post-season run. (If you remember, I was really against the whole post-season run because it wasn't exactly convenient for me to be working all that overtime during the last month before the wedding.)
So I found it fitting that the Rays brought the AL trophy to the Times today. Would have been nice if it was the World Series trophy, but hey, what can you do?
Congrats on your award!! :) That's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteAnd, cool you got to see that trophy!
