Baby's heartbeat :)

I had mentioned yesterday to Tim that sometimes people record their baby's heartbeat on a cell phone. Conveniently, we got new cell phones two weeks ago, and I knew there was a voice recorder on them. While we were in the waiting area for our appointment today, I showed Tim were it was. And when we got back to the exam room, even though there were signs in the office asking to "please turn off your cell phones" for the courtesy of others, I convinced Tim that SILENCED cell phones were courteous. That meant they could still be powered up for stealth heartbeat recording :)

And since all of our family and many of our friends are far away, I'm so, so glad he recorded this. I keep listening to it over and over and cannot get the stupid smile off my face.

Tim was sitting near my head, the doctor was working near my tummy (duh). So Tim turned it on soon after the doctor entered the room and ended the recording after he told us how fast the heartbeat was (153 beats per minute, which according to some wives' tales that I'll examine in a later blog post means we are having a girl). On the recording, you'll hear that it took a few seconds and a few positions to find the heartbeat. Then when we heard it, I started laughing and I think he lost it again. At the end, there was a sharp sound on the doppler, and you'll hear the doctor explain that the noise was baby kicking. (Apparently baby did not want to be disturbed and the doctor was poking around in his/her space!)

So enjoy approximately 45 seconds of our morning miracle:
