One more sleep ...

When Tim and I were long-distance dating for the first three years of our relationship, we'd often go several weeks without being able to see each other. Because of our crazy schedules, we'd often show up at the other person's doorstep at 3 or 4 a.m. (we'd work until 11 or 12 at night and then hit the road). So we counted the time until we got to see each other again by sleeps, not by days.

Since we've been married and living together, we don't do it very often. Sometimes we'll mention "xx more sleeps until xx trip" or "xx more sleeps until Opening Day" (guess who says THAT one?). But last night I realized we had two more sleeps until our ultrasound.

I don't feel like the ultrasound will change our lives - we know we're pregnant, and it's not like we're bringing the baby home. But we're so excited to see the baby - actually looking like a baby, and not just a tiny blobby appleseed - move and learn more about how it's growing and whether we'll be seeing lots of blue or lots of pink in our future. It's amazing to me that we're not even halfway through this pregnancy and yet it is FLYING by. Every milestone, from making it out of the first trimester to hearing the heartbeat for the first time to our first major baby purchase - is one day closer to meeting our baby, which is both incredibly exciting and incredibly frightening and overwhelming. (This due not only to the fact that we'll be responsible for another human being but also because my personality requires that I have a to-do list a mile long that must be completed before Baby comes. Hey, it's how I operate.)

So in one more sleep, we'll get to see our little bean again. And in one more sleep, we should know if it's a boy (name fairly decided) or a girl (name definitely decided). And sorry, blogland, that likely means that it's at least two or three more sleeps until YOU get to find out, but trust that we will share the news :)
