24 weeks

Baby is still the size of a papaya.

How far along?
24 weeks

(24 weeks, 2 days.
It was a rough day, folks.)

Total weight gain/loss: We got a new scale, and so far it looks like I'm holding pretty steady - depending on the time of day, I'm +/-2 pounds from my last appointment. The baby, however, is up to about 1.5 pounds and is 12-13 inches long.

Maternity clothes? Yup.

Stretch marks? Nothing new, although the old ones are looking a bit more pronounced.

Best moment this week: I bought our crib mobile and one of my favorite childhood books :) We had registered for a mobile that I wasn't entirely in love with, and I had even considered making one, but I was maternity clothes shopping in a local baby consignment store and saw a mobile that was perfect for the vision of our nursery. And it was less than 50% of the one we'd registered for ... so I bought it. In the same shopping trip, I bought a copy of Angelina Ballerina, a series that was my absolute favorite while growing up. (I already purchased a copy for my soon-to-arrive niece, but now Elle has a copy, too!)

Mobile, held against the wall
of what will be the nursery.

An Angelina Ballerina book,
one of many in the series.
Tim has decided his "I Love You, Daddy"
book is better.

Symptoms: Some mild heartburn, but everything else has been great.

Movement: Elle is moving around higher and seems to have taken up jumping jacks. She's been really active at night - from about 5:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. I feel her quite a bit. I think Tim is finally getting used to walking in to a room and seeing me stare at my stomach as I watch her move.

Food cravings: Starbucks. I've always been a "hot latte" kind of girl (and in Florida, they ALWAYS ask if you want your beverage hot or iced), but lately I've been going for iced decaf lattes. Mmmm ...

Aversions: Still strawberry cream cheese.

Gender? It's a girl!

Sleep: I'm waking up early every morning and need something small to eat and drink before I can get back to sleep.

What I miss: It's already hard to remember when Elle's kicks weren't forceful. It was only about six weeks ago that they weren't even strong enough to feel on the outside.

What I am looking forward to: This weekend - family and friends, showers, bachelorette party, birthdays :)

Weekly Wisdom: For a baby, uterus=trampoline.

Milestones: We've reached viability! Well, the legal definition for viability. Basically, Elle has the capacity for sustained survival outside the uterus now that we're 24 weeks, although she would spend quite a bit of time in the NICU. This is the gestational age where a fetus has a 50% chance of longterm survival outside its mother's womb. We don't want (new nickname alert!) Ellie Bean showing up any time soon, though - we need her to keep cooking.
