Piece by piece

We have several tasks on our to-do-before-baby list, and one of the big ones was to start clearing out our second bedroom, which we use A LOT as an office/media room. Our computer is in there, and we have a TV, video game system and couch in there, so it gets a lot of use, and we didn't want to empty it out too early. But it's going to be the nursery, and since I'm on the verge of having actual free time, we're getting our furniture soon and we're creeping toward the finish line, it was time to start transitioning it.

The biggest task was getting the couch out of there. Tim has had the couch for almost 20 years, but it's a sleeper sofa that has seen better days. It really wasn't in good enough condition to donate or sell, so we needed to get it to the dumpster.

Easier said than done. This thing is HUGE. It's well-constructed and made of heavy wood. Add to that the mattress frame and pad, and you've got some insane bulk. I should have taken a picture of the couch itself, but things got a little crazy as it was extricated from the room. I snapped the photos below on my Blackberry after Tim dragged the mattress and frame to the living room.

Sid seemed to think that it was safe to lie near the protection
of the armchair and under the frame.

Mario was locked away in the spare room because
we were frequently in and out the door.

Since I'm 26 weeks pregnant, I wasn't much help to him, but I carried couch cushions to the dumpster and did other helpful things, like reminding him that we have a dolly, which proved invaluable in getting the wood couch frame out to the trash.

It only took about an hour for Tim to get everything dismantled and out to the trash. Whew - a major task off the list. Now we've got more room in the soon-to-be nursery to work with, but the next trick will be moving the desk - and computer, with all of its fun cables - out to our living room.
