Building challenge

I love assembling furniture. It is a sickness that my brother-in-law and I share, and it was with great delight that I put together Elle's dresser, crib and bookshelf. I let Tim handle all of the toys - the bouncy seat, the swing - because I love putting together the actual furniture.

We've been saving up and went without big Christmas gifts to each other this year so that we could buy a new TV. He's We've been wanting one for a while now, but we waited until we had the money to buy.

And with a new TV came the need for a new TV stand ... that required being built! Wheeeee!

But when I finished the new TV stand (took about two hours, but I was interrupted by a woken baby), Tim announced that it was my masterpiece. Then he pointed to his masterpiece, and I had to laugh:

"Santa" built the jumperoo on Christmas Eve. He did fairly well despite struggling with the seat for quite some time :)

Our old entertainment center was great - LOADS of storage and lots of display space for my oodles of picture frames. We bought it off craigslist, and we freecyled it (and the old TV - I think Tim nearly shed tears when that thing left).

When we got it, we borrowed my friend Traci's Xterra because we knew it wouldn't fit in our cars. We thought it would fit. It did not. After several attempts and curse words, we basically had to take it apart in large, unorganized chunks. Which meant it had to be reassembled.

Tim had to go to work that day, but I spent a good five hours putting that thing back together, with very little idea of what I was actually doing - and when he came home, it stood complete and upright :)

THAT is my masterpiece.

  1. I didn't know you love to assemble furniture. So do I! My masterpiece is the set of steel cabinets in our carport. Mike had to assemble the cribs when I was pregnant because I couldn't lift anything and could barely move myself. It was so hard to watch and not jump in and annoy him by telling him what to do!

  2. I didn't know that about you, Kate! That's awesome :) I was frustrated needing Tim's help to lift things when I built the dresser - I'm so used to do everything on my own because I like to tackle those projects. Remind me to admire the steel cabinets next time I'm over :)
