(Not) Wordless Wednesday: Oh hi, Santa.

Last year, Elle met Santa for the first time. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't perfect.

This year, I figured she'd be fine. She handles new people well - even if she's not her usual self upon immediately meeting them, she'll patiently study them and then either dismiss them or slowly warm up to them.

I was wrong :)

We were going to attend a big Christmas celebration on Saturday in our local park - Santa arrives by helicopter, there is a bounce house, crafts, fake snow, etc. I figured it would be a bit of a hassle to get there early and wait for Santa, battle the crowd, etc., but I wasn't planning on paying for a meeting at the mall again.

We had our family photos taken early on Saturday morning, and when we were done we returned home before heading out to go grocery shopping. I got a text from a friend that said Santa was at the YMCA for the morning - and it was free. And I wouldn't have to worry about battling the elements and the crowd at the park later in the afternoon. SOLD. Elle and I headed to the Y and ran in to one of our babysitters and friends from church. I figured it would be no big deal to meet the man in the red suit. One of our church friends met him first, then it was Elle's turn.

And Elle wanted nothing of it.

I'm sure it was part she-probably-needed-a-nap and part he-was-wearing-a-big-beard-and-costume. But Elle sobbed and clung to me and wouldn't even look at him except to choke out a "Buh bye."

Needless to say, we won't be bothering to visit Santa again this year.

  1. OK, I'm going to make a bet that the third picture was right after she told him buh-bye! LOL I am not sure who is cuter, you or Elle! ;-) Sorry to hear it, but not surprised - I have an almost identical photo of me with Emily at about the same age! ;-) Consider it just another funny anecdote and look forward to beautiful pictures next year! :-)
