Wordless Wednesday: Rub a dub dub

This week, we are getting a new bath tub, because the old one was rusted on the bottom and we were one bath or shower away from leaking water in to our master bedroom closet again.

The process (of course, a pricey one) was supposed to take two days. But like many things in our life, it couldn't be that easy. When they took out our old tub, they discovered a pipe that they needed to do something to (Tim was home, and aside from "this is more complicated and expensive than originally planned," I don't remember the details) went under the tub and in to where our washer connects to the water.

The plumbers had to move our washer - by putting it on top of our dryer temporarily - and do whatever they had to do, including turning off our water for the afternoon. From Tim's report, it sounded rather involved and unexpected. Yay, fun!

The whole "pipe under the tub that they didn't expect" thing added a few hundred dollars to our bill and two hours of work ... which meant that the guy who was doing the tile work around the tub couldn't start on Monday. So we had a big chunk of wall/tile missing from our bathroom on Monday night:

On Tuesday, he came back and placed the tile, but he couldn't finish before Tim had to go to work, and he had another appointment today, so tomorrow he's supposed to come back and grout the tile and finish placing the new fixtures.

For the last three days, we've had a semi-workable bath tub. I'm guessing that the grout will need some time to dry, too, so I'm not sure we'll be able to fully utilize the shower/tub until the weekend.

While I'm glad we took care of this, and the new tub does look nice, it's kind of an expensive headache. I did buy a few new bath accessories (shower curtain, bath mat, wall hangings, etc.) to brighten up the area - I figure we don't put a lot of money in to the condo and haven't redecorated anything in the last 3+ years, the least I could do was spruce up the bathroom a bit.

  1. I long for the day when we get a new tub... however, ours is mostly just an aesthetic problem and not a water problem (yet) so we don't have a good excuse to move it up on the budgetary "wish list". However, several years ago I did the "new accessories" thing - and it made SUCH a diffrence, it was amazing... so I am sure your new space will be a double-delight! :-) Enjoy!!!
