Bath time theater

Around here, bath time is very entertaining. For a while, Elle was going through a stage where she wanted to take a shower every night - it made our night time routine quite efficient but was not nearly as fun as watching her play with her bath toys.

Elle has quite the bath toy arsenal - two little plastic princesses, numerous rubber duckies, toys and now foam letters and numbers that join her in the bath tub. Elle's dynamic personality comes through as she role plays with the toys, and it's one of the most fun parts of my day. I get to see interesting interpretations of her every day life and listen to performances that leave me giggling an hour later.

She pretends to be a manatee or acts out scenes between the bath toys, and she'd probably play in the tub all night if I let her. She watches me clean the bathroom, too - she's completely intrigued by the blue toilet bowl cleaner and begs me to "make the toilet blue" on a daily basis. The other night, upon watching me scrub the toilet, she exclaimed "Oh, how clever!"

Here are some of my favorite recent interactions and performances:

She arranged the rainbow herself.
"Yook at the yetters!"

"Princess is going to go pee pee in her potty. There you go, Princess. Oh! She needs a diaper change. You have a poopy diaper, Princess. Sit riggghhhhttt here. I'm going to get you a diaper wipe."

"This is Dr. Palacio, and this is Dr. Dagigio. They're going to give a check up."

"Mommy, this is Hank, and this is Duck. Can you say 'Hi Duck! Hi Hank!'?"

"The princesses have to go to school. They're going to hold hands. They give each other a fist bump."

And tonight, I realized that she's very much picking up on the few doctor's appointments that she's attended with me, as she insisted on taking the blood pressure of various bath toys, even mimicking the pumping of the blood pressure cuff.
