So although this is a bit delayed, seeing as how we've known our baby's gender for almost three weeks, it's been funny hearing people respond to the news. Everyone has been excited for us, but some people were clearly pulling more for Team Blue or Team Pink :)
I spent the rest of the day after the ultrasound calling family and close friends. My brother and sister-in-law are due about three weeks before me and found out 10 days before us that they are having a girl, too. When I called my mom and dad, I told them they were having another granddaughter. They were really excited and laughed when I told them about how stubborn the baby was and how I think she has the family's big feet.
When I called my nearly 82-year-old grandmother, she gave the cutest squeal of "You mean I'm going to have TWO great-granddaughters?!" My sister, who has been buying clothes for her future nieces/nephews for months, asked if we'd mind having a girl dressed in sporty gear, as she now has two nieces and a whole lotta boy clothes, too.
Since Tim was working, he had to wait a bit to tell his parents, but they were extremely excited, as this will be their first granddaughter. And Tim's sister-in-law was floored when I told her the news, immediately telling me about the cutest purses she'd seen at Toys 'R Us. Tim's brother asked the question that had been on Tim's mind: "What is Tim going to do with a girl?!" (Tim maintains that this could possibly just be an underdeveloped boy and insists we see additional proof that it's a girl. He's happy, just not sure what to make of this female invasion.) I, meanwhile, have removed my threat of getting a female puppy if we added a fourth male to the already male-dominated household :)
One of the funniest reactions came from Tim's best friend, Doug. Tim texted Doug, a father of three young girls, that he was joining the daddy-daughter club and asked if Doug had any advice for him. Doug sent him back a picture of the three girls at the very pink, very girly American Girl store in Chicago and told him to get used to scenes like that. Doug also shared advice that a nurse had told him - advice to be used when the girls get to dating age and Doug can threaten that the boy had better treat his daughter right because Doug's not afraid to go back to prison. I think that might have been the first time I saw a little fear in Tim's eyes :)
