Empathy

At our third childbirth education class, our instructor brought in a "Empathy Belt" for the men of the room to try on. She offered to let anyone who was interested to wear it during our hospital tour but said anyone who wanted to get a picture with it on could do so as well.

Tim was a good sport and tried it on at the end of class. He didn't even complain when we had photos taken - and he KNEW they would appear on Facebook and the blog :)

The guys could see that a belly of this nature would make it difficult to bend over and tie your shoes, and I think the guy who wore the belt for the hospital tour had a bit of a back ache. The weight of the belly is simulated by lead balls (lead balls that do not kick, press on your bladder or wedge in to your ribs). But the seven pregnant women in the class all agreed that until they have nine months of this and swelling, heartburn and loads of other "fun" pregnancy symptoms, there wasn't really an Empathy Belt that we could really get behind.

The stupid look on my face was prompted by my refusal
to say "Placenta" as the instructor directed.
