Week 23 update

Baby is the size of a papaya.

How far along? 23 weeks.

Total weight gain/loss: I had my doctor's appointment this week, and the Scale of Doom said I gained something like 7 pounds. I have no faith in that scale this pregnancy, and I know that I went through a similar gain during my pregnancy with Elle (followed by another significant gain the next month). I'm trying to eat and work out like a normal person, but I'm also not killing myself. Dr. S (deemed "The Weight Nazi" by a vendor I work with) told me that I'd caught up to the "recommended weight gain" and that I needed to make sure the large number doesn't appear on the scale again next time. Again, I'm not killing myself - I'm trying to be as active as I can (and thank goodness for the time change, which allows us to go for post-work walks now) and not eat everything in sight.

Maternity clothes? SO over maternity clothes. The shirts don't feel long enough, the jeans are constantly sliding down, nothing fits right except maybe pajamas, which I would gladly wear to work if it was acceptable.

Best moment this week: My coworker brought me ice cream :) It made me feel a little guilty after the doctor's appointment days before, but it was a nice gesture and Baby and I certainly appreciated it.

Symptoms: Some pain/soreness in my hip/pelvic area after workouts - definitely a reminder that the belly and gravity are working against me.

Movement: Baby Boy has a party every night between 8 and 11 p.m.

Food cravings: Fudgesicles. They were on sale, and Elle wanted popsicles, so it really worked out well for me and the baby :) They're low calorie, too (as long as I don't eat four or five). And cheese.

Aversions: I have determined that carbonated beverages and the babe do not agree. I get awful nausea and indigestion any time I drink pop, so as much as I crave it occasionally, I'm trying to remember that the consequences are not great.

Gender? IT'S A BOY!

Sleep: I'm getting six-ish hours a night, which isn't enough, especially because I'm not sleeping well. I sleep in chunks, whether it be because I wake up when Tim gets home, or the neighbors wake me up (don't even get me started) or I hear Elle or just wake up on my own. It's not good sleep most nights. I also sometimes wake up with mini-panic attacks or just awful leg cramps. Bleh.

What I miss: Not hating my clothes.

What I am looking forward to: Vacation next month. I need one, desperately.

Weekly Wisdom: Screw the scale.

Milestones: Weighing in like a whale?

  1. Screw the scale, indeed! All that matters is that you grow a healthy baby and that you keep yourself healthy. Bummer your doctor seems to put so much emphasis on weight gain. And bummer that you're not sleeping well. Hope you can get in even a couple of better nights.

  2. @Payettestork, Thanks for the smile and the encouragement! I like my doctor for the most part, but the weight comments I could definitely do without!
